What are the environment variable to consider for CABINET VISION?

Some standalone or Network environments can be locked down by internal or external IT companies. This can cause a lot of problems before/during or after the installation. Here are a list of files/folders/permissions and helpful tools that you can use to get through, around or over these IT issues

 Windows Updates

Make sure Windows updates are completed and pc has been restarted to allow them to complete fully. There could be several rounds of updates and restarts to be done so make sure to check again after completing the windows update.

Firewall

Allow the following through the firewall

  • Version of CV you are using, in this case V2026 exe, through Public and Private
    • C:\program files\hexagon\cabinet vision\CV 2026\CV.exe
  • S2M for Version 2026
    • C:\program files\hexagon\cabinet vision\S2M 2026\S2M.exe
  • Sentinel RMS license Manager, Private and Public
  • SQL Server (CV26)
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL16.CV26\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe
  • SQL Server Browser Service, Public and Private
    • Port 1434
    • Protocol - UDP
  • SQL can also use Port 1433 so you can open this if you have other issues.

Antivirus

The safest course of action is to Remove the Antivirus completely if you are having issues. If you cannot remove the Antivirus then you should Whitelist CV and SQL

Once removed, restart the pc to ensure it is fully removed.

Disabling an Antivirus does not always stop it from blocking installations/dll files.

Once the software is installed and working you can reinstall the antivirus.

File/Folder Permissions

Full permissions set to Everyone with Inheritance on the following .MDF and .LDF Files and folders

C:\ProgramData\Hexagon\CABINET VISION\Users (Server/Workstation Installations)

Depending on version of Alphacam being used. Everyone permissions for S2M folder and the ALPHACAM 20XX Folder.

C:\Program Files\Hexagon\ALPHACAM 2025\SysMacro\S2M

C:\Program Files\Hexagon\ALPHACAM 2026\SysMacro\S2M

Other Settings
  • Local Admin rights required, Domain Rights not required
  • Use a Mapped Network drive instead of IP address and for Network address locations over 25 characters.
    • Instead of \\192.168.0.1\ use a mapped drive like S:\
    • Instead of \\Company_Name _Server_Here\ use a mapped drive
  • Turn “User Account Control” to lowest/off
  • If you are using NETBIOS (CsName) your PC names need to be less than 16 characters, and the DNS host name are all identical.
